Die Villa Ainola von Jean Sibelius
Die Villa Ainola in Järvenpää ist eines der bekanntesten Häuser in Finnland. Hier hat sich der Komponist Jean Sibelius mit seiner Familie den Traum von den eigenen vier Wänden erfüllt - und später das große Schweigen entdeckt.

Ein Häuschen am See: davon träumen viele Finnen, und sie erfüllen sich diesen Herzenswunsch meist in Form eines Mökki, einer kleinen, oft spartanisch eingerichteten Hütte für die Sommermonate. Jean Sibelius wollte sein “Häuschen am See” nicht nur für Ferienzwecke, sondern als Dauerwohnsitz, und zwar am Tuusulanjärvi, einem großen See in einem Vorort von Helsinki. Um 1900 herum war das eine vor allem bei Künstlern beliebte Gegend: Finnlands Nationaldichter Aleksis Kivi hatte am See in einer Hütte gelebt, der Maler Eero Järnefelt - ein Schwager von Sibelius - und der Schriftsteller Juhani Aho ließen sich ebenfalls hier nieder. Das gewünschte Seegrundstück hat Jean Sibelius damals allerdings nicht bekommen; er musste sich mit einem idyllischen Bauplatz auf einer Anhöhe begnügen, etwa einen halben Kilometer vom Tuusulasee entfernt.
Villa ohne Strom und fließendes Wasser
Obwohl der Komponist in seinen frühen Schaffensjahrzehnten oft finanziell klamm war, engagierte er einen der bedeutendsten finnischen Architekten für die Planung: Lars Sonck hat in seinem Heimatland zahlreiche Kirchen und Bürogebäude entworfen. Bevor er mit den Planungen für das Wohnhaus der Familie Sibelius begann, musste er sich erst einmal erklären lassen, was der Hausherr in seiner Villa unbedingt haben wollte und was nicht. Haben wollte Sibelius ein Arbeitszimmer mit Blick auf den Tuusulanjärvi; wenn der See schon nicht direkt vor der Haustür lag, dann wollte der Komponist ihn wenigstens aus dem Fenster betrachten können. Haben wollte Sibelius auch einen grünen Ofen fürs Esszimmer. Verrückt? - Keineswegs, Sibelius war Synästhetiker, er konnte also Farben gewissermaßen hören und verband mit einem grünen Ofen ganz bestimmte Klänge.
Nicht haben wollte der Komponist dagegen Leitungswasser, denn die Geräusche hätten ihn bei der Arbeit stören können - in dieser Beziehung war der große Tonmeister überaus empfindlich, denn nicht einmal seinen musikalischen Töchtern war es gestattet, im Haus zu üben. Gegen das Klingeln eines Telefons hatte Sibelius dagegen keine Einwände, schon kurz nach dem Einzug im Jahre 1904 bekam die Familie einen Anschluss. 14 Jahre später wurde die Villa dann mit elektrischem Strom ausgestattet.

In diesem Haus in der Nähe des Tuusulanjärvi, das den Namen seiner Frau Aino trägt, haben Jean Sibelius und seine Familie gelebt. Bilder aus jener Zeit zeigen einen stets elegant gekleideten Herrn in mittleren oder älteren Jahren, der konzentriert an seinem Schreibtisch eine Partitur liest, in der Bibliothek mit seiner Frau plaudert, mit Melone und Stock spazieren geht und Zigarre rauchend am Flügel sitzt. Der schwarze Steinway ist ein Instrument mit Geschichte: Im Jahre 1915 hatten 144 Musikfreunde zusammengelegt und Sibelius den Flügel zum 50. Geburtstag geschenkt. Kurz nach den Feierlichkeiten kam der Gerichtsvollzieher, der das Klavier pfänden wollte, denn Sibelius war seit seiner Studentenzeit hoch verschuldet; nur mithilfe einer erneuten Sammlung im Bekanntenkreis konnte eine Pfändung des Flügels verhindert werden.
Schweigen von Järvenpää
Erst im Dezember 1926, um seinen 61. Geburtstag herum, war Sibelius endlich schuldenfrei - der Staat hatte seine Pension erhöht; zum anderen flossen auch die Tantiemen reichlicher. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt schloss der Komponist die Arbeiten an seinem letzten großen Orchesterwerk “Tapiola” ab. Danach begann ein Abschnitt, den Musikwissenschaftler gerne als das “Schweigen von Järvenpää” bezeichnen. Denn bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1957 veröffentlichte Sibelius praktisch nichts mehr, wenn man einmal von der Trauermusik für die Begräbnisfeier des finnischen Malers Akseli Gallen-Kallela im Jahr 1931 absieht.

Zwar begann Sibelius noch im Jahr 1927 mit den Arbeiten für seine achte Symphonie. Doch das Werk wurde einfach nicht fertig, geplante Aufführungstermine mussten immer wieder verschoben werden. Über die Gründe kann nur spekuliert werden: In den letzten Lebensjahrzehnten soll Sibelius unter einem zunehmenden Zittern seiner Hände gelitten haben, weshalb es ihm schwerfiel, Noten niederzuschreiben; auch ist der große Komponist offenbar immer selbstkritischer geworden. Irgendwann zwischen 1943 und 1945 hat Sibelius das Manuskript der achten Symphonie gemeinsam mit vielen anderen Noten verbrannt. Für Jean Sibelius war dies wohl ein Akt der Befreiung. “Danach war sein Gemüt heller”, berichtete seine Frau Aino später; “es war eine glückliche Zeit.”
In diese glückliche, alte Zeit darf sich der Besucher der Villa Ainola zurückversetzt fühlen. Das Wohnhaus von Jean Sibelius und seiner Frau Aino ist praktisch noch so erhalten wie zu Lebzeiten des Paars: Da gibt es den großzügigen Eingangsbereich, das Wohnzimmer mit dem Steinway-Flügel, das Arbeitszimmer des Komponisten mit dem wuchtigen Schreibtisch und Blick auf den Tuusulanjärvi, die Bibliothek mit dem Sessel, in dem Sibelius zu Lebzeiten so gerne saß, und die fast schon historische Küche. Und noch ein Stück hat die Zeiten überdauert: der grüne Ofen - in F-Dur.
Die Villa Ainola (Ainolankatu, 04400 Järvenpää) ist von Anfang Mai bis Anfang Oktober geöffnet, der Eintritt beträgt 10 Euro (Stand 2018). Die Räume im Obergeschoss mit Elternschlafzimmer und Gästezimmer können nicht besichtigt werden. Sehenswert ist übrigens auch der Garten, den Aino Sibelius eigenhändig angelegt hat, und das Grab der Eheleute, das sich auf dem Grundstück befindet.
